Institutional Validation Workshop of the Final Report of the National Road Safety Policy and Strategy

Dakar, January 22, 2026 – An institutional validation workshop of the final report of Senegal’s National Road Safety Strategy was held in Dakar.
This activity, chaired by Mr. Ousmane Diagne, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Land and Air Transport, on behalf of Mr. Minister Yankoba Diémé, is of paramount importance in the fight against road safety.

A major human, economic and institutional challenge

Globally, nearly 1.2 million people lose their lives each year on the roads, with the vast majority of victims in countries with characteristics comparable to those of Senegal. Road accidents are not only a traffic problem: they represent human tragedies, a considerable economic cost and a major institutional challenge. Without structured, coordinated and sustainable public action, the situation cannot improve significantly.

A clear vision for 2035

Senegal’s National Road Safety Strategy aligns with an ambitious and shared vision, aiming a fundamental goal: to save lives in the long term, while improving the effectiveness and coherence of public action in the field of road safety.

A participatory, systemic approach rooted in national realities

The strategy focused on the different components of the road safety system: governance, infrastructure, vehicles, users, post-accident care.
The development of this strategic document was relied on a participatory, inclusive and multisectoral approach, involving all stakeholders concerned with road safety: public institutions, security forces, technical sectors and partners.

International benchmarking as a lever for excellence

This institutional success is the result of substantial groundwork, notably marked by the benchmarking mission organized in Tunis from November 9 to 15, 2025.
Over the course of one week, a delegation from ANASER and its partners engaged in experience exchanges with leading Tunisian institutions.

The National Road Safety Strategy in its final version does not propose yet another ambition—it provides a framework for effective action.
